Protests against Namdhari 2AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Protesting against derogatory remarks against a particular section of Sikh community, activists of the Ranghreta Satkar Lehar burnt effigies of heads—Uday Singh and Thakur Dalip Singh—of the Namdhari cult. The agitators alleged that they hurt sentiments of the members of so-called lower caste.

Led by Satkar Lehar convener Kashmir Singh Khunda, the protesters gathered outside Hall Gate and raised slogans against heads of both Namdhari factions which parted their ways with each other after death of former head Jagjit Singh.

The agitators alleged that both the heads had used objectionable words against the Majhbi Sikhs and had termed their community inferior. They told that Thakur Dalip Singh in one of his discourses used objectionable word “Harijan” for the Majhbi Sikh community, which was proscribed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in its resolution passed on March 6, 1949 and the Indian constitution in Article 341.Protests against Namdhari 1
