Sikh Political Prisoner Issue: Sangarsh Committee Holds Strategic Meeting with Govt. Officials

LUDHIANA, Punjab—Release of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar on parole has been delayed due to cases registered against him in Batala and Ghaziabad, in which he has not been able to get bail. ADGP (Intelligence) Hardeep Singh Dhillon and O.S.D of Chief Minister Avtar Singh shared this information in a meeting with Bandi Sikh Rihai Sangharsh Committee at Chandigarh from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Besides discussing the strategy to avail parole for Prof. Bhullar, the Government officials maintained that the accused of Beant Singh assassination convicted in Burail Jail might be released permanently within a week. Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh and Bhai Gurmeet Singh Engineer will benefit from this decision.

Member of the Bandi Sikh Rihai Committee, Bhai R.P. Singh informed that the Punjab Government has promised that currently the political Sikh prisoners who have served mandatory terms of their sentences will be released on parole. As soon as the Supreme Court lifts its stay, these prisoners will be given bail. The Punjab Government has also promised to give positive feedback to facilitate the transfer of Daya Singh Lahoria to Punjab.

Convener of Bandi Sikh Rihai Sangharsh Committee, S. Gurdeep Singh Bathinda maintained the Punjab Government officials urged them to suggest Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa to end his hunger strike. He said that they made it clear to the Government that Bapu Surat Singh will end his struggle till the Government doesn’t act upon the list of political Sikh prisoners. He informed that the Government officials discussed upon the on-going process for the release of political Sikh prisoners.

Members of Bandi Sikh Rihai Sangharsh Committee S. Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala, Bhai Jasbir Singh Khandoor, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and Bibi Sarvarinder Kaur (daughter of Bapu Surat Singh Ji Khalsa) took part in this meeting.
