AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Today, Shaheedi Samagam on 31st anniversary of Sikh holocaust of June 1984 at Sri Akal Takht Sahib had concluded peacefully till 9 a.m. with raising demand of independent Sikh homeland. All the Sikh organizations, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and government felt relieved over the calm conclusion and senior officials had returned to their offices.

However, the situation turned tense around at 1 p.m. when a group of as many as 125 Sikh youth gathered in Sri Darbar Sahib Complex. They started shouting slogans of “Khalistan-Zindabad” and “Raj Karega Khalsa”.

As soon as they rushed toward Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Police personnel and SGPC task force members DSC_4273who were deployed there, stopped them from moving forward.

Feeling outrageous over the restriction, they began to do Parkarama (revolving around the sarover) and continued to raise the slogans.

Police tried to oust them from the complex but they got out of control. Finally, SP Jagjit Singh tried to convince the youth who kept on demanding to be allowed for entry in Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The situation turned very tense and SGPC officials come back to parkarama and they called upon the task force who started to beat up the youth mercilessly. As a result, heavy police force gathered there and they arrested as many as 30 youth afterSGPC beating Singhs beating them up.

As per latest information, the arrested Sikh youth could not be identified as to which organization they belong to. Most of the youth wore Dumale. During the clashes, a Sikh girl wearing dumala was also expelled from Parkarama. Fearing of the clashes, majority of the devotees left the Darbar Sahib complex.

Sikh organizations felt deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident. It could not be found out whether it any conspiracy behind the bloody incident. Surely, this incident again tarnish the image of Sikhs.

  1. our youth are angry. how much can we take all the time? why cant we shout for khalistan as long as it is done peacefully! ! youth are awakening

  2. They need to be kept under check .They will only add to the multiple problems we already face of drugs , toxins in our water , unemployment ,de industrialization etc etc.

  3. Seems more like a conspiracy by Indian government to give bad name to our kaum?
why would our Sikhs march into our holiest shrine to cause trouble??

    • Well I think its a old tack tick, divide n rule which was adopted by British a half a century ago. Nowadays Badal n his associates using to divert the main attention from the core issues in Punjab as drugs, dictatorship by Akalali politicians by acquiring successful running business of a common man to their name, poor infrastructure of Cities such as roads, cleanliness etc.
