Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s Hunger Strike Crosses 120 Days

LUDHIANA, Punjab—The 82-year old Bapu Surat Singh has started day 121 of his indefinite hunger strike. Based at village Hassanpur in Ludhiana, the elderly Gursikh has been peacefully campaigning for the release of Sikh political prisoners who have been languishing in Indian jails after completing their minimum terms.

Yesterday on day 120, Sikh Parcharak Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale again visited Bapu Surat Singh Ji to show support and solidarity. Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa previously visited Bapu Ji on 5 May 2015, and the Jatha from Parmeshar Dwar participated in the event that took place on 10 May 2015 at Hassanpur, attended by thousands. In the meanwhile, during every Gurmat Diwaan the cause of Bapu Surat Singh is being highlighted, as before, in order to help create awareness.

Often fear of the past clouds our judgment, but not every person is essentially the same. Historic failures by another should not necessarily always lead to a prejudgment of the endeavours by others in the future.

The hunger strike was initiated on 16 January 2015 and it is the moral duty of Sikhs across Punjab to peacefully support any such campaign that has Panthik interests in the forefront.
