Harinder Sikka Withdraws Film Nanak Shah Fakir After Meeting With Akal Takht Jathedar

:dateline:Producer Harinder Sikka today withdrew his film Nanak Shah Fakir and stopped its screening. Sikka reportedly made such announcement after meeting with Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.

After the meeting, Sikka announced that the film would be screened only after having clearance from Akal Takht Sahib.

Talking to media persons, Sikka said that he did so obeying the direction of Sri Akal Takht Sahib as its Jathedar has pointed out that there are some portions that are objectionable and need to be edited/deleted. He said that Jathedar told him that he will be informed in this regard by tomorrow.

Sikka said that he felt sorry for the fact that those who have watched the film , were praising it but the persons and organizations who have not seen the film were criticizing it. He said he was committed to spend the earnings from the filmto provide langar to the poor.

It is notable that the film has hurt Sikh sentiments as it presentspersonified characters of Guru Nanak Sahib and his family members in the film. Due to its alleged objectionable content, it was banned in Punjab, Chandigarh and some countries outside India.

  1. I am shocked at such comments from people like kulwinder… So what you are saying is that any good message by guru should not be shared .

Further Sikhs getting offended … Well I am a Sikh and I am not offended … What is wrong if a There are personafied images of guru ji … Are we as Sikhs becoming so narrow minded that we cannot accept that . Is our Faith as Sikhs so weak that we get swayed by the fact there is a personafied image of guru ji… Please I urge our leaders at akal Takth to go back to the fundamentals of Sikh teaching and what guru ji tried to teach us … If a personafied image of guru is not allowed because of fear of idolizing and disrespect … Thn please take action against all the baba’s that roam freely claiming to carry out miracles in the name of Sikh religion. Please stop the other almost idol worshiping actions that I had seen happen at gurdwaras .. I have personally witnessed crowds of people being allowed to rush to touch and bow to Sikh historical artifacts at various gurdwaras in India.

I mean not to offend anyone here but let us look deep down inside and let us look deeply into wht the Sikh religion and guru nanak though us. Why are we as Sikhs so afraid of having any films that personafied our guru made or released ? What is fundamentally wrong .. I urge our leaders to answer here .. Help me make sense and tell me what is wrong as just saying it’s disrespectful is not acceptable to us many Sikhs out here . If it is disrespectful .. Tell us why … Because if anything after seeing a movie like nanak shah fakir … It makes one proud of being a Sikh and understand our roots better

  2. This film should not be released ever,Now there will be politics bytheakal takhat jathedar,It’s title is wrong , guru Nanak dev ji is not a shah nor a faqir, guru ji was a family man , shah means who lends money and faqir is who never lives in a society , this Man sikka is fooling Sikhs by saying that the money film will make be spend on Langer . This bullshiters should be stopped.
