:dateline:Supreme Court of India (SCI) has defered the next hearing on the petition regarding formation of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) to May 13.
The petition was lodged by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member from Kurukshetar, Harbhajan Singh, challenging the formation of the separate panel for managing affairs of Haryanas historical Sikh shrines by the then Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Talking to media persons, SGPCs representative saidthat in this case, the central government had taken a stand against the separate body, stating that Haryana government cannot make separate Act in this regard on its own. If Punjab Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 is to be amended, only central government can do so.
On the other hand, HSGMC (ad-hoc) argued that as per Punjab Reorganization Act 1966, Haryana Government had right to make any such Act and what previous Hooda government done was absolutely fair.
