LUDHIANA, Punjab—Additional session judge Sanjiv Joshi today acquitted Sikh freedom fighter Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in case of carrying explosive material. Bhai Hawara was presented before the court through video conferencing from Tihar Jail Delhi. Noted human rights activist Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur presented himself as a legal counsel of Bhai Hawara.

Talking to Sikh24, Advocate Manjhpur said that the case was registered against Babbar Khalsa activist on January 28, 1995 for allegedly carrying 7 Kg RDX and 12 Kg gelatin. The Police claimed to have seized this material from Bhai Hawara. Due to various reasons, Bhai Hawara was charged on March 30, 2011.

He said further that in the case, only police’s witnesses were registered and no public witness was presented before the court. The witnesses differed with each other which benefited Bhai Hawara. Besides, the government failed to prove that the blast material was seized from Bhai Hawara.

It is worth mentioning that Bhai Hawara was already acquitted in arms Act by judicial magistrate Atul Kamboz on Aug 31, 2012. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is facing life imprisonment in case of assassination of mass murdered and former Punjab chief minister Beant “Singh”.
