Hondh-Chillar Sikh Killings: Akal Takht and Other Organization Condemn Report

Hondh ChillarCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Various Sikh leaders have criticized Justice TP Garg Commission report submitted to Haryana government on Friday for denying justice to the victims of the Hondh-Chillar massacre that took place on November 2, 1984.

It is notable that the investigation report focuses only on the compensation aspect of the massacre.

In a statement issued here, All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Karnail Singh Peermohammed said that the victim families had been struggling to get the killer of the Sikhs identified and brought to book. This aspect, however, has been appeared to be ignored by the Commission.  He said the commission is only focused on providing compensation, which too is important.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said the compensation alone was not enough to deliver justice to the victims and the elements behind this massacre should be traced and punished.

On the other hand, Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh has also expressed similar feelings over the report. He stated that the commission’s report on the Hondh-Chillar tragedy was another cruel joke on the aggrieved community, whose wait for justice had come to naught with each passing year. He said compensation without justice meant nothing and it sounded hollow.
