NEW DELHI, India—Delhi Feteh Diwas celebrations organized by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara mangagement Committee (DSGMC) at Red fort courted controversy when its general secretary and in-charge of Dharam Parchar, Manjinder Sirsa, committed blasphemy by describing Namdhari Cult chief Uday Singh as ‘Satguru’ in presence of Guru Granth Sahib.
Sirsa uttered the controversial words in Gurmat Samagam (Sikh religious congregation) held in open ground of Red Fort on large scale. Notably, Jathedars of 4 Sikh Takhts including Akal Takht Sahib, left the Samagam immediately after Sirsa made this statement.
When DSGMC president Manjit GK learnt about this, he rushed toward the microphone promptly and offered an apology for the ‘mistake’ of his aide.
It is pertinent to mention that heads of various cults and representatives of Sant Samaj were invited for the Delhi Fateh Diwas celebrations. Namdhari cult head Uday Singh and its splinter group head Dalip Singh were also present there which gave everyone huge surprise. When Manjinder Sirsa invited supporters of Uday Singh to the stage to honour them, he termed Uday Singh as ‘Satguru’ in presence of Guru Granth Sahib. The blasphemy hurt sentiments of Sikh Sangat present there. Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and Jathedars of other Takhts did not like the move, thereby leaving the Samagam protesting against the blasphemy. When Sirsa realized his fault, Jathedars had already left the premises.
As the Samgam was broadcast on TV lively, the incident has gone viral on social media.
It is pertinent to mention that Sikhs consider Guru Granth Sahib as their real Guru as Guru Gobind Singh, 10th Guru of Sikhs, had given Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib in 1708. Besides, there are various quotes in Guru Granth Sahib which teach that only “Shabad” can be Guru. In light of this, to say “Satguru” to any living person is considered blasphemy in Sikh religion.
Guru Gobind Singh ji never gave gurugaddi to Sri Adi Granth Sahib. Sri Granth Sahib has always been treated by all the Gurus, including Guru Gobind Singh ji, as being higher in status than the Gurus themselves. Further gurugaddi is given to somebody who is lower in status than the Guru himself. Example, Bhai Kehna, a sewak, of Guru Nanak was given the Gurugaddi and was “raised” to the level of Guru. And so forth. So if we say that Guru Gobind Singh ji, who considered Sri Granth Sahib as higher in status than himself, gave Gurugaddi to Sri Granth sahib,then doesn’t it mean that he lowered the status of Sri Granth Sahib?. Does it sound reasonable that Guru ji would ever do that?
Where is that copy of Sri Granth Sahib that was given the Gurugaddi?
Sikhs need to wake up and be smart.
Just correct the mistake there and then. Slips of tongue should not result in full blown controversies. Forgive and forget.

Why did mahan jathedars not have courage to speak….they lost in votes n need s new vote bank simply….this is a ploy one compliments other corrects……
