CHANDIGARH, Punjab—While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to contest the upcoming by-poll elections in Dhuri, Vikram Singh “Dhanaula” has challenged Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to have a family member contest the elections against him.

Responding to a recent comment by Sukhbir Badal challenging the Aam Aadmi Party for elections in Dhurni, Vikram Singh announced on his Facebook account that while for whatever reason AAP has decided not to contest the elections, he accepts Sukhbir’s challenge as an ordinary person (aam aadmi).  “I challenge Sukhbir Badal to nominate any member of his family against me,” he added.

Meanwhile, member of parliament Bhagwant Mann has made it clear that the Aam Aadmi Party would not contest the by-elections.

He said the party is preparing itself for Punjab assembly elections 2017, and strengthening its base and organizational structure is the priority right now. “Before contesting any elections, the party wants to go through this practice”, he added.

Vikram Singh has been in the limelight recently for a number of reasons.  News of him hurling a shoe on Parkash Badal went viral on social media.  Vikram Singh was arrested and kept in custody for a number of days.  After his release, he took amrit and went on a hunger strike at New Delhi Jantar Mantar to seek justice for 1984 Sikh Genocide victims.

Simranjeet Singh Mann has announced Surjit Singh Kalabula as the candidate for Shiromani Akali Dal (A).  Due to Surjit Singh’s popularity and respect, Vikram Singh has been asked to step down as the contest between him and Kalabula would only help the Akali Dal.
