:dateline:As per information availed by different sources, Congress may opt former Punjab Chief Minister Surjit Barnalas son Gaganjit Barnala as candidate in Dhuri assembly by poll.
After taking stock of the situation for selecting candidate for the elections, Congress general secretary and in-charge of Punjab Affairs, Shakeel Ahmed and Harish Chaudhary, have returned back to Delhi and submitted their report to party high command.
Both Congressleaders have reportedly discussed the possible choices with Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa and other leaders and the announcement will be made by the High Command by the end of this week.
As per inside sources, Congresshigh command has shortlisted one of the Barnala family members and Congress MLA Kewal Singh Dhillons son Karan Dhillon for candidature. Of them, Gaganjit Barnala is considered as the most favorable choice. In place of Gaganjit, the ticket could be granted to any other family member of Surjit Barnala due to the considerable reputation of the family in the area.
On the other hand, it is also learnt that Kewal Dhillon was also consulted to consider his son for the by-poll but he has allegedly declined and said that he will fully support any candidatenamed by the Congress.
It is worth mentioning that during last Lok Sabha elections, Akali Dal (Longowal) led by Barnala family supported Congress.
