US Organization Condemns Arrest of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa; Demands Immediate Release of Ravinder Jeet Singh

SAN JOSE, California, USA—”This is not only a violation of human rights but is also a murder of [India’s] tall claims of being the largest democracy in the world,” said Dalwinder Singh Dhoot, Chairman of North American Punjabi Association (NAPA).  Dhoot condemned the Punjab Government for not allowing family members to see Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, who is under arrest at the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.

Bapu Surat Singh is on indefinite hunger strike in Ludhiana demanding the release of Sikh prisoners who have already served their jail times.  “Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is also being forcefully detained by the police. He is not allowed to see his daughters. His son is also arrested by the Police,” he added.

Dhoot alleged  that US citizen daughters of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa had gone to India to see their father who is now under detention and being kept in the hospital.  “The police is trying to forcefully feed Bapu Ji and Ravinderjeet Singh Gogi, a US Citizen (and son of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa), too had been arrested under sections 107/151 so that he was not able to return to USA.”

Dhoot said that the US Ambassador in New Delhi had been informed to seek his help for the immediate release of US citizen Ravinderjeet Singh Gogi.
