AMRITSAR, India—Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is reportedly going to release Bikrami Calendar labeling it as ‘Amended version of Nanakshahi Calendar’ for next Nanakshahi year 547 which will start from March 14.

On Wednesday, SGPC president Avtar Makkar met Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to discuss the issue. As per our inside sources, there is a huge push to release Bikrami calendar by the SGPC.

Our sources have told us that the supreme Sikh Gurdwara body will publish the calendar only in Gurmukhi and dates in Roman numbers would not be mentioned at all. If the SGPC indeed goes ahead with the move, it would spell the end of the amended Nanakshahi calendar on March 13.

However, Makkar didn’t give a clear answer over the issue and said that the SGPC would prepare the calendar for Nanakshahi Year 547 “as per historical facts”.

On Monday, Giani Gurbachan Singh had said that he had directed the SGPC to publish the New Year’s calendar as per “Gurbani and historic facts”.

Makkar also thanked Akal Takht Jathedar for honouring him with the title of “Shiromani Sewak”.
