Police Blocks Bathinda “Vangar March”; Women Constables Asked to Stop Protesters

Women Constables Trying To Block Singhs

BATHINDA, Punjab—The Punjab Police tried to foil the fourth “Vangar March” from Bathinda earlier today.   Hundreds of Sikh protesters arrived at Gurdwara Singh Sabha to raise awareness of #FreeSikhPoliticalPrisoners campaign; however, Punjab police was deployed on both main entrances of the Gurdwara.  A large number of women police constables were asked to block the protesters on the main gate.  The marchers, most of them being Singhs, had no option but to not resist and force their way out.  After sometime, it was decided that the march should leave from the back door.

The police tried to block the marchers from proceeding with the march.  A large police deployment tried to forcefully stop the protesters.  Bathinda was turned into a virtual police deployment, with hundreds of troops present everywhere.

Despite police efforts to halt the Sikh Sangat, the marchers were able to attain their goal of raising awareness of the Punjab Government’s brutalities against the Sikhs.  They raised slogans against the Government and in favour of Sikh political prisoners.

The march was led by S. Jaspal Singh Heran of Pehredar newspaper.
