CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Well respected advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, has stated that DGP Sumedh Saini is purposely trying to create confusion on the issue of Sikh prisoners. He said that Bapu Surat Singh had only demanded release of those “Sikh political prisoners who were sentenced to imprisonment for life and who have served minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.”
Manjhpur has been maintaining a list of all Sikh prisoners who have been kept confined in various prisons. He said that there are many cases of prisoners who have completed their terms, but there are also those cases which are still pending. While speaking to Sikh Siyasat News, Manjhpur stated that DGP Saini has not refrained from mis-interpreting the list.
“By referring repeatedly to all persons included in the list, Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini was attempting to confuse the issue and misguide the people,” said Manjhpur. “Even a bare sight on the list makes clear that it is a list of all Sikh political prisoners, including under-trials and convicted persons. No one has ever demanded release of all persons included in the list.”
