:dateline:Going against Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) move of celebrating theParkash Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Guru Gobind Singh as per the amended Nanakshahi Calender, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh is going to mark the anniversary as per theoriginal Nanakshahi Calender at his residence.

As per theoriginal Calender, the anniversary is on Jan 5, whereas SGPC has celebrated the same on Dec 28 as per amended the Nanakshahi Calender which is very close to the Bikrami Calender.

The Akhand Path Sahib (non-stop recitation) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib started on Saturday at the residence of Jathedar Nandgarh, and the bhogceremony will be held on Jan 5 to mark the Gurpurb.

It is worth mentioning that as per the aspirations of the majority of Sikh sections, Jathedar Nandgarh has been advocating the original Nanakshahi Calender implemented by Sri Akal Takht Sahib in 2003 which represents a separate identity of Sikhs. However, under the pressure of a section of Sikhs named Sant Samaj on thetime of elections, this calendar was amended by the then appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib as per Bikrami Calendar in 2010. Since then, Jathedar Nandgarh has been opposing the amended calendar.

Jathedar Nandgarh did not participate in the function and Nagar Kirtan organized by SPGC at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on Dec 28, 2014. He was willing to celebrate the Gurpurb Jan 5 at Takht Sahib on his own but SGPC did not allow him to do so. Then he came to observe the holy day at his residence.
