CHANDIGARH, Punjab—”Shiromani Akali Dal’s programme to march to three border posts to protest BSF inaction and BJP’s plan to rally against drugs are all part of a drama to be staged to befool the simple and hardworking Punjabis”, stated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur.

Taking a jibe at BJP, Chhotepur said, “BJP is trying to grab the role of a reformer saint whereas it has performed the role of the main villain by silently participating in a government whose members proliferated from drug trade. The villain tag is appropriate because of its planned silence all these years. It is not the victim of somebody’s sins but  it has  remained fully involved by supporting drug pedaling  and giving them police protection in their respective constituencies.”

“The knee jerk reaction of Akalis in this regard gives a clear picture of the psychological condition of its leadership. The bravado is missing in the second action of not going against BSF. It is a clear case of pot calling the kettle black with a known history of drug pedaling in the state by this ruling combination and the Congress party whenever they were in power”, he said.

He said, “The ED summoning of Majithia is a proof and link in this chain. BJP cannot and will not be allowed to follow the policy of  running with the hare and hunting with the hounds  by the people of Punjab. BJP cannot make cacophony by holding antidrug rallies when it is fully responsible for the mess it has put Punjabi youth in because it has been ruling the state from the last eight years.”

“If Akalis are not enacting a drama and are serious in rooting out the drugs, they need to dismiss Majithia and recall back Harsimrat Badal from the cabinet and snap all ties with BJP because it is not ordering closure of porous opium based drug trade in its ruled states of Rajsthan and Madhya Pardesh and not sealing the international border effectively to stop the heroin and smack smuggling from Afganistan and Pakistan”, he said, adding, “If both the parties are not going to act on the above suggestions it is very clear to all the people that it’s a desperate measure to divert attention of people by resorting to gimmicks.”
