44th Day of Hunger Strike: Concern Over Critical Health Condition of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa

AMBALA, Haryana—The hunger strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa continues to its 44^th day for the release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in various jails of India despite completion of their terms. Almost all sections of Sikhs are supporting Bhai Khalsa and protests against the injustice being delivering by Indian state are taking place. In various places in India, Sikh organizations have organized demonstrations in favour of Bhai Khalsa.

The health condition of Bhai Khalsa remains a matter of deep concern for the entire nation as he is considered to be in his final days. Doctors have been left surprised that that even after the 44^th day of fasting, Bhai Khalsa is alive.

As per information availed by Bhai Khalsa’s press secretary Bhai Gurpreet Singh Guri to Sikh24, Indian Farmers Association national president Satnam Singh Behru along with his aides arrived to meet Bhai Khalsa. The farmer leaders made assurances to support the struggle, declaring that they would send a memorandum in this regard to the President of India through the state governor. They warned that if Sikh political prisoners would not be released and anything happened to the life of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, the environment of both the states would be disturbed. They said that the government would be responsible for any such disturbance.

Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala president Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala and vice-president Bhai Ranjit Singh Damdami Taksal also visited there to enquire about the health condition of Bhai Khalsa. Bhai Gopala said Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh should deliver the promise he made with Bhai Khalsa during his previous hunger strike as his health condition has deteriorated a lot. He appealed that the entire nation should cooperate with Bhai Khalsa.

Sikh activist Bhai Bagicha Singh Varaich, who was also present there, alleged that self-styled president of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) youth wing Amrinder Arora was threatening the management committee of Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib and forcing Bhai Khalsa to shift his strike to another place. Bhai Varaich warned that if Arora would not stop intervening in the struggle as per the directions of Indian intelligence agencies, he would have to face the anger of the Sikh nation.
