AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Former Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti has appealed to Sikhs and Sikh organizations across the world to sign on the plea to be submitted to the White House, in which the US president is requested to ask Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi why the Indian constitution references Sikhs as Hindus.
Jathedar Vedanti was talking to the media earlier this week in a press conference organized by All India Sikh Students Federation (Peermohammad) and Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) to release the petition related with the plea.
He said that Sikhs are a separate nation with a unique religious and cultural identity, so they could not be thrown in with followers of other religions. “Article 25 (2) (b) of Indian constitution terms Sikhs as part of Hindus like Buddhists and Jains. The effort to have the article amended has been ongoing for a long time, but the Indian government has not delivered justice to Sikhs in this regard so far,” Jathedar said.
A journalist sought Vedanti’s comment over the alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) with the BJP which denies the separate identity of Sikhs. He replied that he admitted the fact but still there are many conscious Sikh who would sign the plea.
AISSF president Bhai Karnail Singh Peermohammad said that he had also given this petition to the incumbent appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and he (Jathedar) is expected to deliver a message to the nation.

Let Sikh be Sikh we are the preventers of Hindus and not Hindu Sikh has got an individual identity . An individual born is a Sikh and not a Hindu a Hindu is made or a Muslim is made and so is a christan as by means of janeu or sunnat or baptism cerimony . But a Sikh is a born Sikh as whatever way the almighty has sent him to this world the same way he goes to exile . So Mr pm please give Sikh there identity in the constitution which was been governed by the gangus or the recent gandhis
