


:dateline:In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the SGPC President has sought the release of Sikh detainees who have completed their imprisonment terms, but are still imprisoned. �Avtar Makkar stated that the SGPC is trying its best to seek the release of detainees,�and that the matter is waiting in the hands of the Centre Government.
Makkar made the disclosure yesterday when he was at Anandpur Sahib. �The SGPC President was asked by members of the press why the apex Sikh body was not doing anything for the release of Sikh prisoners, while Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa was again on hunger strike.
SGPC President stated that he had high hopes that the Centre Government would release Sikh prisoners soon.
Makkar was consistently asked about the hunger strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. �In response�to a question, �he said that the “hunger strike of Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh is his personal decision, but SGPC has always remained serious about Sikh issues.” �
He said that the SGPC had earlier asked Dr. Manmohan Singh for the release of these Sikhs during his tenure, and now he has�also raised demand for this with Narendra Modi.
SGPC Member Amarjit Chawla and Manager Sukhwinder Singh were also present on this occasion.
