Makker Urges State and Centre Government to Declare Gurpurab on Jan 7

MakkarAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Makkar has appealed all to celebrate the Parkash Gurpurab (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh on January 7, 2015 as per the decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Makkar said that the decision was taken by Panj Singh Sahiban (highest presidium of Sikhs) after a long discussion keeping in view of coinciding the Gurpurab date (Dec 28, 2014) as per amended Nanakshahi Calender with that of the martyrdom day of the Chhote Sahibzadas (younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh).

He said he has written to Simrati Irani, HRD minister of India, and Parkash Badal, CM of Punjab making them appeal to announce the holiday on Jan 7 in the place of Dec 28.
