USA: Governor Jerry Brown Honors Didar Bains at West Sacramento Gurdwara

SACRAMENTO, California, USA—Didar Bains, known as the godfather to the region of more than 50,000 Sikhs, was honored yesterday by governor Jerry Brown at the Gurdwara of Sacramento. Governor Brown praised Didar Bains and the thousands of other immigrants from India who Brown said have enriched the country with their culture and work ethic.

Didar Bains is a long time supporter of governor Jerry Brown and Brown wanted to acknowledged the work he has done as a farmer and in the political world. “The Sikh community is at a turning point that many immigrants go through; we are no longer looking inward. We are politically active, and the governor recognizes this,” said a Sikh activist.

Governor Jerry Brown praised the Sikhs who have built their own businesses and are actively involved in their communities, and embraced Didar Bains who has supported Brown for more than 30 years. Bains arrived in California in 1958 from Punjab at the age of 18 and is now a multimillionaire who owns around 40,000 acres in the Sutter, Yuba, Butte, Glenn, Tehema, and Sacrament counties.
