Tarn Taran Clashes: Police Arrests Two Policemen and Registers Cases Against 29 Cultists

Goli KandTARN TARAN, Punjab—In view of triggering outrage among Sikhs across the world over the firing on Sikhs opened by policemen and followers of Noormahal based controversial cult named Divya Jyoti Jagarti Sansthan (DJJS) in Jodhpur village, the police has taken prompt action against the accused. While two policemen who opened fire toward Sikhs have been arrested, 29 cultists including 9 women were registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian penal code (IPC).

On Monday, followers of DJJS and policemen had opened fire on Sikhs led by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, who were opposing the function of DJJS peacefully. The firing left dozen of Sikhs injured severely.

In a statement given by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, who is admitted in Guru Nanak Dev Superspecialty Hospital here, to police he said some people of Jodhpur village have informed that violating the directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, a function was being organized by anti-Sikh cult named Divya Jyoti Jagarti Sansthan (DJJS) in villagers Harjit Singh’s residence. He said he was going to Harjit Singh’s house to convince him to make him and his entire family aware of the truth. When he was away from the house, some people started pelting stones on them. Later on, two policemen who were deployed as security guards of the followers at the village, and followers themselves opened fire on them.

SSP Manmohan Sharma said that police had arrested both the accused policemen and it was raiding to arrest the rest of the accused persons. He said no passiveness would be tolerated in this matter. In view of tension prevailnig due to the dispute, security has reportedly been beefed up in Tarn Taran district and DJJS headquarter at Noormahal (Jalandhar).

It is notable that DJJS has been indulging in carrying out anti-Sikh activities since long and misinterpreting Sikh principles and Gurbani.
