Along with these organizations, volunteers of UK based Khalsa Aid and Sikh Relief, Australia based ‘Australian Sikh Support’, Canada’s Sikh Awareness Foundation, and ‘Waheguru Adventure’ successfully won the hearts of flood victims by serving them day and night. Where the SGPC, DSGMC and other organizations were having unlimited money and other resources, these volunteers were have sentiments of doing anything to serve humanity. These volunteers were very few in counting, but they were capable of reaching victims of floods by driving every type of vehicle in all circumstances. They reached the victims of floods in such places where only the Indian Army and Border Security Forces were capable of reaching. These volunteers don’t keep themselves limited in distributing relief in relief camps; instead they also distributed relief to the victims of flood who got stuck in remote areas.
A volunteer of Australian Sikh Support explained when they reached the relief camp of Gurdwara Shan Bgat that a Sikh sister Tandeep Kaur informed them that a pregnant Muslim woman had become unconscious due to vomiting and was in need of treatment. Volunteers quickly arranged an ambulance and delivered her to Ahmadia Hospital, from where doctors referred her to Sher-e-Kashmir Hospital. Papalpreet Singh informed that this hospital is like PGI, Chandigarh. When the doctors asked for blood, Amandeep Singh of Jammu donated blood to this woman. She gave birth to a male child in the night at 11:40 pm. This woman remained unconscious for two days and when she became conscious, she rewarded the volunteers of Australia Sikh Support by giving them provision of naming the child.
It is also known worldwide that these volunteers also played an important role in cremating dead bodies of living beings killed during this flood. These Sikh organizations also remained successful in helping victims of natural disasters in different countries. This is their first attempt in India, but they made the Sikh community feel proud worldwide, by serving the victims tirelessly.
