SIRSA, Haryana—Converting the speculations into reality, the political wing of Sirsa-based controversial and anti-Sikh cult “Dera Sacha Sauda”, on Monday resolved to extend support to the BJP, Hindu right wing political party, on all the 90 assembly segments in Haryana.

The decision was reportedly taken on Monday after a long three-day meeting of the cult’s 15-member political wing. After the meeting, the decision was made to extend support to the BJP, said Kastoor and Rakesh, members of the wing. The wing has also decided to extend support to the BJP in Maharashtra.

Explaining about the decision, Kastoor said, “We will back the BJP candidates in Haryana on all the 90 assembly seats. Since we have considerable number of followers in other parts of India, we have also resolved to extend support to the BJP in Maharashtra also.”

He said the decision has been taken after taking into consideration feedback from the followers of the cult, who have representatives at village and block level, into account.

Kastoor, however, maintained that the cult head Gurmeet Ram Rahim was not involved in the decision on extending support and the final decision had been taken “collectively” by the political wing.

Just two days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a rally of BJP at Sirsa, which is considered the stronghold of the Chautala family, on Saturday. He praised the cult a great deal. The cult is known for instigating violence by hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs and other religions. Its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim had committed blasphemy against Sikh religion in 2007 which disturbed the peaceful environment of Punjab. He has also been accused of dozens of rapes and murders.

BJP is contesting all the seats on its own for the first time in the state. In the past, it has played second fiddle to parties like the INLD, Haryana Vikas Party which later merged with Congress, and even with Haryana Janhit Congress before separating from it recently.
