“Amrit” is Necessary for Fighting for the Social Cause, Says Vikram Dhanaula

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Vikram Kumar Babbi, resident of Dhanaula (Barnala), who hurled a shoe at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal in a high level function on India’s independence day, is all set to become an Amritdhari Sikh. He has announced that he will go to Sri Darbar Sahib at Sri Amritsar along with his fellows to take Amrit from Panj Pyaras (Five beloved of Guru).

Speaking to media reporters, Vikram said, “I already used to think about taking Amrit, but after the incident of shoe hurling, I have realized that taking Amrit as per Sikh tenets is very necessary for fighting for the social cause as it makes the man responsible and enhances one’s self-confidence.”

“I am facing a poor fiscal condition and unemployment due to hurling a shoe toward Badal. My wife has been expelled from a private school following the incident,” he added.

It is noteworthy that after being released from the jail on bail on September 9, 2014, he has not cut his hair and has started to wear a Keski (small turban).
