BJP Faces Big Setback in By-poll Elections

Congress-SPNEW DELHI—Results of by-elections held in Utter Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujrat have reversed the “Modi Wave” as BJP has faced major setback in these states. Just four months ago, in Parliamentary elections, the saffron political outfit had showed tremendous performance in these states. Now, the party which is ruling at the Centre has lost 13 of the 24 seats held by it.

Prior to this, performance of the political wing of Rashtrya SawemSewak Sangh (RSS) had shown poor performance in the Assembly by-elections in Bihar, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

It was Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP was on a high after a near-total sweep of the 80 Lok Sabha seats, has also delivered a humiliating blow to the BJP as it lost seven of the 11 seats held by it. Its ally Apna Dal has also lost one seat.

Equally crushing was the defeat in Rajasthan where BJP conceded three of the four seats to Congress, which also managed to wrest three of the nine seats in Gujarat, where the elections were held for the first time in 12 years sans Narendra Modi.

The BJP, which is hoping to do well in the coming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, conceded that the by-poll results were not up to expectations and said that people had voted on local issues.

The only solace for BJP on an otherwise dismal day was its entry in West Bengal Assembly.

  1. I dnt understand when congress in power media was criticizing it, now BJP is in power now media is behind it. Is there any other option for people Except Bjp or congress. Politician are corrupt but they are grown up in the same society on which they are ruling, so there problem in society culture. We have to change it…..
