HISAR, Haryana—Rifts between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are widening day by day, especially over the campaign by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Badal in favour of the INLD led by Chautala family in Haryana for upcoming assembly elections. Getting furious over the move of Badal, BJP leader Capt Abhimanyu has asked the former to clear his stand on Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) to the people of the state.

Abhimanyu is the national spokesperson of the saffron party and he could be fielded as candidate from the Narnaund segment.

In a statement issued here, he said that the Chautala’s party had made the SAD patron its star campaigner as the party was devoid of a charismatic leader, asserting, “The INLD leaders are banking on Badal for their campaign. But it would prove costly for them as the people would confront Badal as to why he was not allowing Haryana get its due share of SYL waters.”

Besides him, BJP vice president Rajiv Jain has also made a similar statement while addressing an election meeting in Sonipat. Taking a jibe at Badal, he stated that he should declare the state was ready to release Haryana’s share of water through SYL canal before campaigning for the INLD. He said that otherwise how could Badal urge the state farmers to support INLD.

Jain recalled that the former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal had struggled hard for construction of the SYL but because of adamant attitude of successive governments in Punjab many obstacles were created with the result that the matter was still pending in the courts. He alleged that the INLD and the Congress were the chips off the same block as the people had already tested them in the past.
