CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Reins of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came in the hands of Sikh leadership in Punjab as an old Panthik leader, Sucha Singh Chotepur, has been appointed as convener of its state unit.

With the motive of energizing the party in the state and keeping its focus on Punjab, AAP has given this responsibility to Chhotepur as state convener, whereas Bhagwant Mann, member of parliament from Sangrur Lok Sabha segment, has been given the charge of running campaigns and mobilising the youth in the state.

Chhotepur contested the lok Sabha elections unsuccessfully from AAP for the Gurdaspur seat. He has spearheaded several movements in the state. Chhotepur said that although he had been given a free hand by the party leadership, he would consult all leaders and try to build a strong party organisation in the state.

One of the main reasons for the party suffering a serious setback during the recent by-elections in Patiala(Urban) and Talwandi Sabo was the absence of an organisational structure. Both the party candidates lost their security deposit.

At a meeting here, the party’s political affairs committee decided to take strict disciplinary action against those indulging in anti-party activities.

Vowing to run statewide campaigns, the party said it was committed to a drug-free and corruption-free Punjab.
