NEW DELHI—As per a press note by the Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare, the SOPW team, along with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawra’s sister and brother in law, visited him in the Tihar Jail.To the surprise of the SOPW team, he was carried out in a stretcher. Sikh24 had earlier reported that Bhai Hawara was left confined to a wheel chair after the jail authorities refused to provide him with medical assistance.
SOPW team shared that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is now receiving treatment from the hospital wing of the Tihar Jail, however he is being forced to sleep in his cell at the prison.
A number of Sikh organizations are currently campaigning to get Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara treated from a team of specialist doctors. Bhai Charanpreet Singh of the All India Sikh Youth Committee is holding a hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to seek treatment for Bhai Hawara.
Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is a victim of relentless torture lashed upon him by the police. He faces immense pain in his spine. SOPW claimed that, “the jail authorities did not act on Hawara’s pleas for medical attention and for the past few months they have masked the situation by giving him pain killers.”
It was further stated that while the SOPW team visited him at the Tihar Jail, the Delhi High Court of Judge Mukta, has ordered that Bhai Hawara’s treatment begin without delay at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
