Sikh Elected As Mayor in New State of Telangana in South India

TELANGANA, India—A Sikh with the name of Ravinder Singh has been elected Mayor of Karimnagar, in Telangana.  It is noteworthy that there is a small population of the Sikhs in the area, hence the election of Ravinder Singh has been rejoiced by Sikhs and others.

Ugender Singh from Telangana told Sikh24 that election of Ravinder Singh has made history in South India.  Singh has stated that the Sikhs number close to 2,000 there.

Ravinder Singh is member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which is a regional political party in Telangana.  Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in June 2014.
