While there has been a lack of action from other political parties, the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party MP has shown great attachment to situation of Punjabis and others in Iraq. In a video released yesterday, Bhagwant Mann stated that his team is running a control room from his residence in which they are monitoring the situation in Iraq and offering assistance to those who are stuck there.
Bhagwant Mann appreciateda number of organizations, including Punjab Welfare Society inKuwait and Khalsa Aid UK, for helping financially. He also blamed other political leaders for not doing much to save lives of those stuck amidst crisis there.
Close to a hundred people have allegedly arrived in India from Iraq after the efforts by Bhagwant Mann and his team. He posted online stating that at least two dozen others will be arriving shortly.
Bhagwant Mann stated that he has spoken to over 300 men in Iraq, who are facingdevastating conditions there. Many of them had travelled to Iraq after taking personal loans, but they have not been paid their salaries for months. Their contractors have confiscated passports and are barring many of them to leave the country.
