In 2008, Curlew St, which led to the Sikh temple Nanaksar in the east end of Brampton, was renamed Gurdwara Gate. At the time, Mayor Susan Fennell said the name Gurdwara—which literally means the gateway to the guru — was more appropriate for a road that leads to a Sikh temple.
