SANGRUR, Punjab—Led by former member of parliament Simranjit Singh Mann, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), has decided to contest the forthcoming Assembly byelections in Punjab. The decision was revealed by party’s Secretary General, Jaswant Singh Mann, after a meeting of the Sangrur and Barnala district units of the party on Thursday.

Mann stated the party would field its candidates in all three assembly constituencies for which byelections are held. The meeting was presided over by Master Karnail Singh Narike, a General Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).

It is notable that byelections to the Talwandi Sabo and Patiala Assembly seats were already due, while Dhuri MLA, Arvind Khanna, had also sent his resignation to the Speaker.

“In view the byelections, the party’s organizational structure is being energized. New members were being enrolled across the state while an opportunity was being given to active leaders to serve the party”, Mann added.

Shamsher Singh Maloa, Bahadur Singh Bhasaur, Barnala district president Ranjit Singh Sangherra and Sangrur district president, Harjit Singh Sajuma, also attended the meeting.
