:dateline:Following recent news reports regarding the ill health of Bhai Jagtar Singh�Hawara, Bhai Joga Singh (UK) confirmed�that Bhai Hawara’s legal representative and close family members met with him and have found that his health has further deteriorated. �Bhai Hawara is now suffering from�frequent bouts of excruciating pain in his back and legs, which have left him confined to a wheelchair.
In a statement, Bhai Joga Singh said, “We have today discovered that Bhai Hawara had in fact requested over three weeks ago for urgent medical attention but was only prescribed basic pain-killers. This negligence by the Tihar jail authorities in failing to provide prompt and adequate medical provisions has directly led to the rapid decline in Hawara’s health. It should be noted that Hawara has suffered continuously with back pains due to the physical injuries he sustained during periods in police remand where he was subjected to brutal levels of torture. It is however not clear what has triggered this recent condition.”
Bhai Hawara’s legal team have confirmed that as the Delhi courts are now closed till 25th June, no application can be made for his referral to a hospital for a thorough medical examination.
Lawyer and human rights activist Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema has been asked by Bhai Joga Singh to closely monitor the situation and ensure all the necessary steps are taken so that Bhai Hawara can be receive the necessary medical attention without any further delays.
