NEW DELHI—Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara has been suffering from increasing pain in his spine and left leg for the past month.
On June 13 , our SOPW volunteer Parminder Singh, met with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara who is imprisoned in Tihar Jail at Delhi. On previous visits, Jagtar Singh was one of the first inmates to come out at visiting time. Yet, Parminder Singh found that on this occasion, that even after 15 minutes of waiting Jagtar Singh had not yet arrive for his visi . The jail officials kept telling PArminder singh that Jagtar Singh was on his way. When he finally appeared, they brought him out in a wheel chair. After exchanging their “Fateh”, Jagtar Singh asked about the state of the Sikh community (making reference to the recent events at the Akal Takht on the 6th of June).
Parminder Singh showed great concern for Jagtar Singh’s deteriorated health. Although he was in high spirits, Jagtar Singh informed Parminder Singh that for some time, the pain in his back and left leg has been steadily getting worse.
According to the jail manual, high risk prisoners should have access to medical attention. We urge you, the Sangat, to join SOPW in demanding that the authorities admit Jagtar Singh Hawara into an appropriate hospital without delay and that he be given the help he so obviously needs. Please also keep Jagtar Singh Hawara, a great hero of our nation who has spent the best years of his life in jail, in your prayers and may Waheguru bless him with a speedy recovery.
