:dateline:Taking a positive step towards probing the incident at Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Wednesday set up a four-member panel. The clash took place between members of the SGPC task force and Sikh youths in Sri Darbar Sahib complex on June 6, on the 30th anniversary of Indian Army attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib. The panel has been formed as per the directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahibs appointed Jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh.
The probe panel comprises SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Executive Member Karnail Singh Panjauli, Baba Nihal Singh Hariyanvela and Bidhi Chand DalChief Baba Avtar Singh. Additional secretary Balwinder Singh Jaurasingha would be coordinator.
As per sources, the SGPC has included Baba Nihal Singh and Baba Avtar Singh in the panel to allay reservations expressed by certain Sikh circles that the panel would be prejudiced. Sources said both Baba Hariyanvela and Baba Avtar Singh enjoyed the confidence of Panthik organizations.
The organizations including Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) had stated that the SGPC probe would have no relevance orcredibility. They had earlier rejected the SGPC inquiry as one-sided. SAD (A) chief Simranjit Singh Mann, had contended that if an impartial probe was to be conducted, representatives of his party, as well as neutral observers should be appointed on the panel too. In a press statement issued here, Dal Khalsa leaders had said the SGPC probe would have no credibility when the SGPCs own role is under the scanner.”
