Punjabi University Makes Good Progress in “PunjabiPedia” Project

:dateline:A meeting of the Punjabi University Syndicate was held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh, here today.� While welcoming the new syndicate members, Dr. Jaspal Singh informed that the progress of Punjabipedia is in full flow. About 100,000 entries have been included and the target for the completion of the project is more than 300,000 entries.

Dr. Jaspal Singh said that all the departments of the University have been asked to send entries relating to their subjects. While describing Punjabipedia as a big leap in the direction of fulfilling �Mission Punjabi-2020�, aimed at accomplishing and furthering University�s primary mandate of promoting Punjabi in its entirety, Dr Jaspal Singh said that the effort is tantamount to steer Punjabi language in the top bracket of world languages and make its presence felt all around the globe.

He announced to set up a special cell to accelerate the pace of adding to the data and entries of the Punjabipedia at �quickest pace�. Stating that Punjabipedia was the first such online encyclopedia in any regional language of this magnitude, he called upon the Punjabi lovers in general and Punjabi scholars in particular to help make it a �world phenomenon�. It will soon be made available on smartphones, tablets and other online gadgets and sources free of cost, he added.

Dr. Jaspal Singh congratulated the syndicate member of the University and Akali leader Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra for being elected as Member Parliament (Lok Sabha). He expressed hope that Prof. Chandumajra will always contribute towards the all-round development and progress of the University. On this occasion Prof. Chandumajra was felicitated by the syndicate members also.

Syndicate approved the appointment of Dr. Gurmel Singh, Professor in Physics as Director, Neighbourhood Campuses; the reappoinment of Dr. Joga Singh, Professor for a period of three years and the further extension of Dr. Manjit Singh, Professor, Social Work for a period of two years.� In another decision Dr. Kuldip Singh Dhir was granted with senior fellowship for three years and Dr. Vidvan Singh Soni was given fellowship also for three years. Syndicate also approved the decision of Bhai Randhir Singh Online Gurmat Sangeet Library being a part of newly-established Gurmat Gian Online Study Centre.
