June 6th Clash: Mann Seeks Cross-FIR Against SGPC Task Force

2014-6-9-Simranjit-Singh-Mann-in-Press-conference-2-ED:dateline:Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann on Sunday demanded that a criminal case be registered against members of the�Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force for the clash at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6, the 30th anniversary of the June 1984 holocaust.

In a press conference, he said, �The police have been biased and are toeing the SGPC line by registering criminal cases against innocent youths. Similar cases should be registered against the members of the SGPC task force who attacked the youths during the clash.�

The former Member of Parliament said he would move the High Court seeking directions against what he alleged was biased working of the Punjab Police. He alleged that he had been chased by the police since morning. He dared them to arrest him. He claimed the police had registered criminal cases against 28 youths. He alleged that the SGPC employees had denigrated the sanctity of Sri Darbar Sahib, and should be punished by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

He also raised the question whether Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma had been honored for being loyalist of Badal, or for being chief of Damdami Taksal. He asked if he had been honored as a Taksal chief, then why� had the SGPC given recognition to Baba Ram Singh as a Taksal head leader following the demise of Baba Thakur Singh, the 15th head of Damdami Taksal. Similarly, he asked whether Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala was also the head of Damdami Taksal. He also asked questions about the issue of Siropas presented to martyrs� families and questioned whether Dhumma belong to family of a� martyr? He pointed out, �Who sacrificed his designation of�Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for Panth, he is being seen as Anti-Panthik by the successor of Nrainu Mahant.
