AMRITSAR SAHIB—The leaders of various Sikh organizations on Saturday strongly condemned the blasphemous act of placing sacred Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to send abroad. This condemnation was made by Gurcharan Singh Babbar president All India Sikh Conference (AISC), Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala head of Damdami Taksal Ajnala, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh president Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee (SGGSSC), Baldev Singh Sirsa, vice president of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani, and their aides outside Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Prior to their collective statement, all these leaders performed Ardas before Sri Akal Takht Sahib silently during which the request was made to Guru Sahib to sack Giani Gurbachan Singh the appointed Jathedar of first Takht of the Sikhs. In their Ardas, they sought the implementation of a Jathedar with integrity, merits, and qualities such as those had by the historic figure Akali Phoola Singh.

Sikh leaders said that it was grave sacrilege to Sri Guru Granth Sahib to transport holy Saroops to foreign countries in containers.

On the other hand, appointed Jethadar Giani Gurbachan Singh said that the decision to send Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib abroad in containers had been made in a meeting of Panj Singh Sahibans (Highest presidium of the Sikhs). He said the  executive committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had also passed the decision. However, Sikh masses are opposing the method of sending sacred Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib abroad that is being followed these days.
