AMRITSAR SAHIB—Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Friday said the party would be soon taking up the issue of the 1984 Sikh genocide with the Union Home Ministry in order to put the perpetrators of the atrocious crimes behind bars.
Briefing the press after paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib here along with his wife and Union Minister Harsimrat Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab said, “The SAD will soon discuss the ongoing legal proceedings with the Union Home Minister to ensure proper investigations and early hearings of the cases, so that perpetrators of heinous crimes will be punished.”
He accused previous Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) led Union Government for shielding culprits of the Anit-Sikh pogroms. He claimed that new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led Government at the Center has built up the trust of Sikhs who have been fighting for the last 30 years to get justice.
Sukhbir showed confidence in the Center led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said that he would deliver justice at the earliest possible opportunity, taking every legal and administrative measure.
Speaking regarding his party’s performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, SAD president said the SAD-BJP would soon begin an introspection exercise to gauge the performance of the government.
Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Badal said the development in food processing sector would be her priority and special efforts would be launched in this regard. She said proposals for constituting food processing units in Punjab and other states will be approved without any delay for the facilitation of peasantry.
