:dateline: Swami Vivekanand Subharti University based in Meerut (Utter Pardesh) on Friday expelled 10 Kashmiri students who cheered for the Pakistan team during an India-Pakistan cricket match two months ago. The match was won by Pakistani team. The varsity revoked the suspension of 57 others.

The vice-chancellor of the university Manzoor Ahmad told media persons that the expelled students were currently taking their annual exams. Once the exams are over, they will be sent back home, he said, adding that they would be issued migration certificates. He said 57 other Kashmiri students, however, had been relieved of all charges of indiscipline and would continue to study in the university.

He said these students had raised anti-India slogans and damaging the university hostels furniture.

The V-C has ruled out the possibility of expulsion of the non-Kashmiri students with whom the Kashmiri students had enteredinto a brawl.

Various human rights activists have condemned the university decision which is guided by narrow political ends and ultra nationalism.
