Exclusive: Hemkunt Sahib Yatra Resumes in 2014 after Ardas at Govind Ghat

MUSSOORIE, UT, India—State Chief Minister Harish Rawat, with cabinet Minster Harak Singh Rawat, inaugurated the annual Pilgrimage to Hemkunt Sahib by flagging of the first group after praying at Govind Ghat Gurdwara yesterday on 24th May 2014.

Thousands of Sikh Pilgrims and locals were present on this occasion.  Hundred Sikh Regiment Soldiers and 25 members of Sikh sangat have been working hard for past 3 weeks in clearing everything in and around the Gurdwara Sahib.  Their hard work made this pilgrimage possible.

Chief Minister elaborated on the arrangements made by his government to ensure that pilgrims do not face any problems. According to CM Uttarakhand, yatra would soon become smooth for pilgrims.  He has directed District Magistrate of Chamoli to ensure that advanced perorations were made so that devotes weren’t left stranded in yatra route in case of any emergency.

In order to ensure the safety of pilgrims, Uttarakhand has raised a State Disaster Response Force and Volunteer Corps. Members of these forces will be travelling with each batch of pilgrims at all ‘dhams’ and at Hemkunt Sahib.
