Canadian Sikhs Celebrate with Nagar Kirtan Parade in Edmonton

EDMONTON, Canada—Thousands of Edmonton Sikhs celebrated their culture with a Nagar Kirtan parade on Sunday in Mill Woods.

The parade, now in its 16th year, celebrates the religious festival of Vaisakhi, which marks the baptism of Sikhs followers 315 years ago.

The processions started at Gurdwara Millwoods and included a one-hour stop at Durwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha, where dignitaries and other representatives delivered greetings to the many Sikhs gathered for the celebrations. The Nagar Kirtan march also featured traditional dance,Gatka martial arts, music and food. The popular parade is organized by the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan Committee of Edmonton.
