JALANDHAR, Punjab—Shan-E-Khalsa Production’s new Punjabi film “Proud to be a Sikh,” the effort to save Sikh identity and ethos in Punjab, will be released on May 7, 2014. The film will also disseminate a message against drugs which is wide spread among Punjabi youths.
Speaking to media persons, film’s hero Amritpal Singh Billa, and producer Dr. Rupinder Singh said, “This film has been made differently from others, and will reduce illusions regarding Sikhi among young generation of Sikhs.”
All team members of this film were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Rupinder Singh said, “This is my fourth film to be released, and its shooting was carried out at various places in Punjab.”
Talking about the plot, he said, “The story of this film is on the life of a professor named Jarnail Singh who had to leave his country following the happenings of 1984 with Sikhs. When he comes back, he is surprised to see that Sikh youth have cut their hair, and are indulging in the menace of drugs. After viewing the entire horrible scene of the Sikh homeland, he struggles greatly to bring the youth back on track. The film revolves around this struggle.”
The role of the professor is played by Amritpal Singh Billa, and along side him the role of heroine is played by Rakinder Kaur. The film is directed by Satdeep Singh.
Dr. Rupinder Singh also said that the film would make Sikh youths aware of their rich heritage, unprecedented history, and great cultural values.
