:dateline:Former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Prisons and anti-drug crusader Shashi Kant has knock on the door of Punjab and Haryana high court and sought anticipatory bail for any criminal case to be registered against him in the state. He is under threat of being arrested in a fabricated case by Punjab politicians.
Few days ago, Kant had disclosed the names of variousShiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Badal senior leaders Gulzar Singh Ranike, Ajit Singh Kohar, Khemkaran MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha, and other politicians who are involved in drug trading, and smuggling. Shashi Kant had said that these politicians were on the list of people involved in protecting drug peddlers, which had been prepared by the Punjab Polices intelligence wing in 2007 when he was the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) intelligence officer.
Shashi Kant, in his petition, has requested that in case the court does not seem it fit to grant him anticipatory bail, a protective measure may be granted in the form of an advance 15-day notice in writing to him in case he is sought for arrest in any criminal case. Hearing of the petition is slated on May 1 in the court.
The petition mentions further that on January 10, 2014 an attempt to kidnap him was made by the Punjab Police officials. In this regard, a daily diary report was filed in a police station at Chandigarh.
Shashi Kant has stated in his petition that ruling politicians, and some others, are not happy with his crusade against the drug racket in Punjab. He stated that since his recent revelation, he, along with his family, are living under constant threat not only to his life and liberty, but also in the form of implication in a fabricated case.
The Punjab and Haryana high court had earlier taken notice of his ‘suo motu’ (meaning “on one’s own initiative”) application seeking aCentral Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the drug racket in Punjab.
