:dateline:Problems for Bikram Majithia seem to be on the increase as the elections near. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has created a new problem for Majithia by restricting his movements to his polling station area where he is a candidate, until after campaign period is over.
Issuing a public statement, Mr. V.K. Singh, CEO said today that as per “communiqu” received from the ECI, Mr. Majithia would not be visiting any other part of any assembly segment of the 02-Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency (including 13-Majitha AC where he is running). The Commission has also directed that he immediately video-graph surveillance of all his movements.
The ECI has also directed that Mr. Gurpreet Singh Gill, SSP Amritsar (Rural) be asked to report to Police Headquarters at Chandigarh, and Mr. Balkar Singh, of Indian Police Service (IPS), the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Crime Headquarters should supervise his work up to completion of polling on April 30, 2014.
Reacting strongly to what it called “the unprecedented, unwarranted, and totally undemocratic” order of the Election Commission of India, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) (Badal) declared today that it would seek an immediate reversal of the order which amounts to the denial of Mr. Majithias fundamental right to take part in the electoral process, as a normal and free citizen of India.
