Imprisonment of Bhai Mandeep Singh Kubbe: State Government Not Taking Sacrilege Cases Seriously

Bhai Mandeep Singh Kubay 1LUDHIANA, Punjab— Ludhiana court has sentenced Bhai Mandeep Singh Kubbe to 5 years imprisonment. The young Sikh man of Kubay village near Samrala, shot Bihari migrant Dalip Kumar with his revolver while in Police custody at Police station Sahnewal for disrespecting Sri Guru Granth Sahib. For this act, a case was registered against him under F.I.R. 131/12 at Police station Sahnewal under section 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Bhai-Mandeep-Singh-Sahnewal Bihari migrants had interrupted a Sri Akhand Paath Sahib, meant to be a 48 hour un-interrupted reading of the entire scripture, that was held August of 2012 at Gurdwara Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, of Sahnewal. Dalip Kumar, one of the migrants had evaded the attending Granthi Singh, and committed the ultimate sacrilege when he forcibly tore off a holy Ang (page) from Guru Granth Sahib. Bhai Mandeep Singh is also sentenced to 3 years imprisonment under the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, no significant progress has taken place in case related to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib ji by Dalip Kumar. It demonstrates that the state government, and the judiciary are not taking incidents of ultimate disrespect to the Sikh Gurus seriously. The incidents of sacrilege towards Guru Granth Sahib have increased in recent years. Bhai Mandeep Singh’s action had disseminated a strict message to the miscreants.
