Sikh Pilgrims Leave for West Punjab to Mark Khalsa Sajna Diwas

Sikh pilgrimageAmritsar Sahib, India— Nearly 2,400 Sikh pilgrims, including an 824-member SGPC group, on Thursday, left for Pakistan in special trains to celebrate the foundation day of the Khalsa Panth (Vaisakhi) in the historic Gurdwaras of the country. SGPC member Hardev Singh is leading the group.

Before leaving for Pakistan, Hardev Singh said the pilgrims would reach Panja Sahib on Friday and Sri akhand path Sahib would start there on April 12 whose bhog ceremony would be performed on April 14.

After the Bhog ceremony, religious programmes would be held. Subsequently, the pilgrims will visit Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Sacha Sauda. The Jatha will reach Lahore on April 17 and would pay obeisance at the historic Sikh shrines like Gurdwara Dehra Sahib, Gurdwara Rori Sahib and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.

They will return to east Punjab on April 19. SGPC Secretary Dalmegh Singh spoke out against the denial of visas to 385 pilgrims while stating that these steps hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs. “We had sent a list of 1209 pilgrims, but only 824 were issued visas for Pakistan,” he lamented.
