Shaheedi Bhai Jaspal Singh (Chaur Sidhwan, Gurdaspur)
On 29 March 2012, officers of the Punjab Police opened fire on a group of young Sikhs who were holding a peaceful demonstration in Gurdaspur against the death penalty of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and the removal and defiling of another Sikh student’s dastar by members of Shiv Sena.
The unprovoked Police firing claimed the life of eighteen year old Sikh engineering student Bhai Jaspal Singh of Village Chaur Sidhwan, while another Sikh youth named Ranjit Singh was seriously injured.
Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh was declared a Quami Shaheed – Shaheed of the Nation by the Sri Akaal Takht Sahib.
Despite Punjab Police accepting the bullets from their AK47 killed Bhai Jaspal Singh, his parents continue their long and hard battle for justice.

Bhai Jaspal Singh’s shahidi proved the callous nature of Punjab Police in handling peaceful demonstrations.The Akalis never consider any human life lost as their prime responsibility for accountability.Perpetrators needs to be punished under law and family compensated.
